The Intoxicated
Driver Resource Center (IDRC) is a unit within the Division of Substance
Abuse and Addiction Services. This office is responsible for providing
a mandatory 2-day educational/assessment program for persons convicted
of Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, and/or Underage Drinking/Driving.
Funding for the
IDRC is generated through a mandatory $150.00 fee assessed for each
person required to participate in the program. It is anticipated that
by July 2005 this fee will increase to $220.00
Approximately 1200
offenders attend the 2-day IDRC class each year. At that time each client
receives alcohol/drug education, and an assessment to ascertain the
need for treatment. Failure to abide by IDRC recommendations results
in the issuance of a noncompliance report to the sentencing court, and
the client faces a minimum 2-day jail sentence with additional fees
and license suspension.
To continue to reach
the needs of the DWI population, some of the information we offer is
as follows:
- HIV/AIDS
- Self-help community
meetings, including bi-lingual Alcoholic Anonymous (A.A.) groups
- MADD Victim Impact
Panel
- Alcohol and other
drug effects on the elderly.
