Mission Statement

The Middlesex County Mosquito Extermination Commission (Commission) was created in 1914 in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey, NJSA, Title 26, Chapter 9, Article 2.

The Middlesex County Mosquito Extermination Commission has two essential goals.  The first is to protect the citizens and visitors of Middlesex County from mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile Virus (WNV).  The second goal is to minimize the negative impact of nuisance mosquitoes on outdoor recreational activities.

These goals are achieved through a comprehensive approach, employing integrated pest management (IPM) principles in a program that is environmentally sensitive, fiscally prudent, and operationally effective. This method of mosquito control has been adopted by the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Middlesex County and is supported by the US Environmental Protection Agency, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and public organizations such as the New Jersey Environmental Federation.

The Commission’s integrated approach to effective mosquito control includes mosquito surveillance, water management, biological control, chemical control and public education.
