Park Profiles

Developed Parks


  1. DONALDSON PARK
    Second Avenue, Highland Park. 90 acres
    Bordering the Raritan River, the park is widely known for its boat ramp. Picnic groves, ball fields, lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, two playgrounds and several soccer fields are the facilities available in this popular recreation area. Currently plans are being prepared for the complete refurbishing of the park, which will be taking place from late 2002 to 2004 in several phases.


  2. THOMAS A. EDISON PARK
    Mill Road, Edison. 161 Acres

    This is the park system's sports center, offering a competition quality quarter mile track, ball fields, sixteen tennis courts, a football field, and soccer fields. All these facilities are lighted to tournament standards. The park is also home to a model airplane flying field.


  3. FORDS PARK
    King George's Post Road, Woodbridge. 18 Acres

    This beautifully wooded park provides visitors with two roller hockey rinks, two tennis courts, a shelter/gazebo, comfort stations, bike/walkways, a new playground and passive facilities.


  4. JOHNSON PARK
    River Road, Piscataway/Highland Park. 473 Acres

    The second largest developed park in the system, Johnson Park is also located along the Raritan River. Facilities included in the park are ball fields, soccer fields, three playgrounds, a bike/walkway, fitness trail and an animal haven. Johnson Park is home to the historic village East Jersey Olde Towne.


  5. JOSEPH MEDWICK PARK
    Post Boulevard, Carteret. 82 Acres

    The park is located adjacent to the Rahway River. There are facilities for picnicking, baseball, soccer, street hockey and exercising.

  6. MERRILL PARK
    Middlesex Turnpike, Woodbridge
    . 179 Acres
    A well rounded park with facilities for many family and sports activities. Included in the park are ball fields, basketball courts, lighted tennis courts, picnic groves, an animal haven, fitness trail, a football field and a soccer field. Merrill Park is the home of the "Progressive Playground", which is under the jurisdiction of Woodbridge Township.

  7. RARITAN BAY WATERFRONT PARK
    O'Leary Blvd., South Amboy/Sayreville. 136 Acres

    Raritan Bay is the first waterfront park in the Park System. Facilities include athletic fields for baseball, softball, soccer and football, a one-mile meandering walkway, a playground and other amenities. The park also offers a landmark pavilion overlook which is used for the Music-in-the-Park series in July and August.

  8. ROOSEVELT PARK
    Route 1, Edison. 217 Acres

    The County's senior park, dating back to 1917, is home of the Stephen J. Capestro Theater where the nationally recognized Plays-in-the-Park are staged. Visitors can enjoy a wide array of facilities including picnicking, fishing, tennis, basketball, playgrounds and bike/walkways. A Veterans Memorial was built in 2002 to honor all those Middlesex County residents who served their county in all branches of the Armed Services.


  9. SPRING LAKE PARK
    Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. 121 Acres

    This park was constructed on the former bed of Spring Lake. There is a five-acre lake for fishing and extensive walkways. Facilities include basketball, tennis courts and bikepaths. Concerts are also held at the gazebo.


  10. THOMPSON PARK
    Forsgate Drive, Jamesburg/Monroe. 675 Acres

    This is the largest developed park in the system. Facilities include an animal haven, playgrounds, picnic groves, ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and an extensive network of color-coded hiking trails.

  11. WILLIAM WARREN PARK
    Florida Grove Road, Woodbridge. 126 Acres

    This park is home to the Kids-in-the-Park summer theater camp. In addition to several ball fields and soccer fields, other amenities include bocci courts, shuffleboard, basketball, tennis, picnic groves and nature trails.

  12. OLD BRIDGE WATERFRONT WALKWAY
    Bayview Avenue, Old Bridge. 52 Acres

    Included in the park are a concession building, fishing piers, playground, and a comfort station. Plans are underway to continue the park to the Cliffwood Beach and the Monmouth County border.


  13. ALVIN P. WILLIAMS MEMORIAL PARK AT SEWAREN PENINSULA
    Woodbridge. 39 Acres

    This park overlooks the Arthur Kill and contains a small amphitheater, informal playing fields, a playground and family picnic areas. Its construction was made possible through a cooperative effort between the County and the municipality.
