The Middlesex County
Prosecutor is the chief law enforcement officer in the county. The Middlesex
County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO) is the nucleus of the County's Criminal
Justice System, working in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies,
the Judicial and Correctional Systems, as well as the citizens within
the County's communities.
The Middlesex County
Prosecutor's Office is staffed with over two hundred members which include
Assistant Prosecutors, Detectives, Agents, and Support Personnel.
Assistant Prosecutors-
Detectives/Investigators- Agents
The functions of Assistant Prosecutors, who are attorneys, include the
review of incoming criminal complaints, providing training and legal
expertise to municipal police departments, presenting cases to the Grand
Jury, filing motions and briefs, and ultimately, preparing and presenting
criminal cases for trial in Superior Court.
Detectives/Investigators
The Detective staff of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is responsible
for the investigation of all indictable crimes. The Detectives duties
also include the interview/interrogation of victims, suspects and witnesses,
the implementation of forensic science, the administration of polygraph
(lie detector) tests, and providing expert opinions that are subsequently
required in the prosecution of criminal cases.
Agents
Sworn Personnel include Prosecutors Agents who are college graduates,
and provide valuable assistance to the various units while initiating
a career in law enforcement.
