Why should you get a flu shot?
Flu is a disease
of the breathing passages caused by the influenza virus. The virus is
spread through the air and is as contagious as the common cold. It can
be spread by anyone who already has the flu, as well as by people who
have been exposed but havent developed symptoms yet. That means
you can be exposed and not even know it.
The flu is much
more serious than a cold. Symptoms can be severe, including body aches,
exhaustion, high fever, respiratory inflammation, congestion, cough,
and more. For certain people consequences of the flu may be fatal, especially
for people over 65, anyone with a chronic medical condition, and those
with an impaired immune system.
In order for the
flu shot to be effective, you must get a flu shot every year because
each year the flu strains change. The flu shot does not cause the flu
the viruses contained in the shot have been made noninfectious.
