LEAD POISONING PREVENTION AND CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
The program addresses the problem of childhood lead poisoning through a variety of interventions including collaboration with the Nursing Division and the Environmental Division.
Case Management
is provided for children ages birth through 6 years in the community.
Children with persistent venous blood lead levels between 15-19 ug/dl
will receive an assessment evaluation and visual home inspection for
potential lead hazards. Children who are identified as having an elevated
blood lead 20 ug/dl or more are case-managed through age 21, if needed
to insure optimum health. Epidemiological and environmental evaluations
are performed in the children’s residence and cases are followed to
ensure a safe living space.
Education is provided
for the community on the proper protocol for the removal of lead paint
contamination and renovation procedures. Nutrition and housekeeping
information is also provided.
