RADON PROGRAM
Radon is a naturally
occurring, almost chemically inert, radioactive gas. It is formed from
the radioactive breakdown (decay) of Radium, which is formed through
several intermediate steps from the decay of Uranium.
Radon confirmatory
testing is no longer being performed by the New Jersey Department of
Environmental Protection or Middlesex County Public Health Department.
The Radon Program is basically an educational program to help make residents
of Middlesex County aware of potential radon contamination concerns
in their homes. Information is disseminated by the distribution of NJDEP
radon literature and telephone communication to any concerned residents.
This program has been ongoing to provide assistance to Middlesex County
residents for the past thirteen years.
