The Bias Incident Unit is responsible for the special investigation of bias incidents. These bias incidents are so unique and require such delicate handling because they attack the racial, religious and ethic heritage of our citizens. An offense is bias-related if its motive is based upon race, color, religion, sexual orientation or ethnicity. Bias incidents undermine our culture, values and principles of democracy. Any suspected or confirmed bias incident is very serious in that a seemingly minor incident can very easily escalate into a larger public safety concern.
